Energy & Energetic Medicine

Sunday 25 Aug 2013

I have wanted to write something about the way energy moves and changes depending on the various conditions that affect it. I would also like to examine the effect of this same energetic movement on the layers of energy as it builds up into materiality --- the stuff that forms our bodies and the tangible physical universe that we live with, because after all, we know that all this is really the same energy. Spiritual people often resonate with the idea that we are all connected. Equally science, as I understand it, seems to agree that the universe makes us and is in us. Star stuff certainly builds our bodies and the energy of the universe permeates everything. From my perspective this universal energy also includes consciousness and all its manifestations as it feeds into to make and condition my intellect and emotions --- or collectively, my "Mind". Our mental flow, perception and feelings all come from our responses to this energy as it impacts our minds. All this is of course is mediated by our five physical senses. Practiced meditators can know and penetrate into a sixth sense of the mind itself that comes clearly into view when the five senses are subsumed.

A deeper understanding of this subject is well overdue given that some influential scientists and doctors have started a campaign to ridicule and belittle anyone who does not toe a very main stream orthodox scientific line. They seem to have the idea that all meaning comes from the material, that the brain is in charge of the mental world, and that everything thing dies with the body, leaving nothing.  My view of things tells me that many of these so called debunkers are as dangerously fundamentalist as the religious kind.

A case in point is Richard Dawkins, who has set himself up as judge and jury on these matters and peddles a very unbalanced obsessive belief system that I am sure most reasonable people would never buy into.  His high handed treatment of people and his bias can be seen in his film "Enemies of Reason". When you compare the uncut version of his interview with Deepak Chopra with the version he edited for his show you can see he has not been very fair minded. Both versions are on YouTube. Rupert Sheldrake has also had a taste of the establishment's censor. On a TED talk he chose to speak about ten dogmas that he believes modern science is based on. He made what I think were cogent arguments to leave these so called facts as open questions. The talk was banned. This banning shows the influence and power these dominant people have invested to keep these ideas from being challenged. It also demonstrates the fear they have of these ideas becoming unacceptable to the general populace. Loss of face, prestige and financial power are obvious motivators to try and stop any alternative views being heard.

For those of us that see the universe as both inside and outside of our being, fundamentalism is difficult to come to terms with. It is obvious to me that my thoughts influence the way I feel and I can see how they go on to express themselves in my physical being. I see that my health and dis-ease are dependent on the mind stream of energy flowing through me and I know this energy is just as important to the bodily organs and systems that express the physical being I call Dennis. In saying this I am not advocating miracles or an eternal life in this form. I recognise that everything changes and will eventually finish but I can see that the way I choose to interact with the world has its way with how my being manifests. Further, I can see how the Universe reshapes to suit. I certainly realise that the Universe does not die when my physical body dies, and I can also see that the energy stream that expresses itself in me also does not finish when my body dies. So what happens to it?

My view is that this energy stream remains as a conditioned pattern in the universe and will express itself naturally with a new birth or becoming that follows on from the death. The conditions just need to be right. These are natural cycles that are dependent on their conditions for the way they come into being. You can see it everywhere in the Universe.  One might ask --- Is it me personally that is reborn into the new body? A new born baby has new conditioning streaming in from new parents but the conditioned energy of the original being is still being expressed. All these energy streams come together naturally. Whether or not the baby is the same person is a similar question as to whether I am the same person waking in the morning after a night's sleep. Is it the same me that wakes up every morning after going to sleep each night? The energy stream is still conditioned in much the same way as the day before; but my subconscious mind is sure working to reshape things when I sleep, so at the very  least I can notice perhaps more clarity might be present after a good night's sleep! The fact is that everything is changing all the time. I cannot pin myself down.

Coming back to the original points about energy and censorship, there is much new and old knowledge to be gleaned from the fields of energetic medicine that are being learned and understood by many people these days. We are learning to understand and work more with our sub-conscious minds as a way to promote healthy living and in doing so; I believe we will be able to cut our reliance on drugs and severe medical procedures. It is very short sighted to try and ban and demonise the people who are working in these fields. Energetic medicine has the potential to make us happier and healthier, more wise and peaceful. It is just as important as the scientific perspective to take us closer to the truth of things. One day science might find a way to measure the energy of consciousness together with all its various flavours.

As a beautiful example of what I am saying I would like to cite the "Dog Whisperer" Caesar Milan who "rehabilitates dogs and trains people". Time and again you see how it can be the dog owner making their dogs aggressive, fearful or out of control. The dog is following its natural instincts and will pick up on the energy of its owner. It goes on to mirror the energy and will naturally find its position in the pack, usually at the top if there is trouble. Caesar shows that dogs naturally find balance in the way they dominate or submit. Misunderstanding this fact and then anthropomorphising the situation goes on to cause all of the trouble that Caesar has to deal with. He deals with all situations by training the owners to relax and become calm assertive. The dogs by and large just respond to the new energy input they are receiving by becoming less aggressive or fearful when the human takes on the correct role as the calm assertive pack leader. He says that people get the dogs they need. They are a barometer that responds to the owner's energy. Caesar seems to be at one with Energetic Medicine. He routinely sends clients for homeopathy, acupuncture and healing. He also uses it on his dogs to good effect.

I have learned to have a very healthy respect for energetic medicine. I am blessed to be married to a very good kinesiologist and I have my own clientele in my work as a hypnotherapist, so our household sees a daily offering of energetic healing.  Main stream medicine is currently dominant and like an out of control dog in Caesar's pack, it needs to settle back into its rightful respected place. Energy medicine needs to be understood and respected too so it can take its rightful place. The human condition is made up of Intellect and Emotion, Head and Heart, Material and Mental. It is folly to try and raise one component to be higher than the other, or worse, to completely disregard the other. Energy feeds into each side without fear or favour. Understanding this will bring us closer the truth and beauty of our human condition.
